The Barron Arts Center was built in 1877. Constructed as the first library in Middlesex County (and not a church as many have surmised), the Barron Arts Center is an example of a Richardsonian Romanesque Revival style building with its stunning stained-glass windows and quaint clock tower. Donated by Thomas Baron, whose family journeyed from Ireland to Massachusetts before settling in Woodbridge, the Center’s interior architecture reflective of its history is a highlight itself. The building with its intimate gallery area hosts musical performances, lectures, a monthly forum for poets, and an ever-changing display of art produced by nationally renowned artists and craftspeople.
The Barron Arts Center, located at 582 Rahway Avenue in Woodbridge, showcases talented artists throughout the year. We feature concerts, exhibits, educational lectures, and annual events.
Programming is offered to the public free of charge, although donations are gratefully accepted. We are proud to announce that the Barron Arts Center has the oldest and longest running poetry group in the state of New Jersey called “Poets Wednesday”.
We encourage you to check out one of our many upcoming exhibits and to come out and support our events.
We aim to make the Barron Arts Center an exciting, educational, and enjoyable experience that is accessible for everyone. The building, the gallery, and the restroom are all wheelchair accessible. Ramps provide relatively easy access. Devices are available to assist those who are hearing impaired. Designated seating may be arranged by calling the office in advance. In addition, many offerings are videotaped and offered virtually to Woodbridge Township residents on the local Woodbridge channels so they can enjoy the arts from the comfort of their own home. Due to the limited size of the gallery and the security of our visitors, we are sorry to announce no strollers are allowed.
